FROM THE FOUNDER OF PET PARENTS PLACE

At Pet Parents Place I don’t believe the world can ever have too many happily-ever-after stories, and so it’s with great pleasure that we continue to share the ones that our followers share with us.  Huckleberry was in a kill shelter for a long time and his pet parent went with her strong instincts and adopted him.  I think this story about what extent Huckleberry’s pet parent went to to make sure Huckleberry was welcomed and comfortable in his new home is commendable. The story below is in Huckleberry’s pet parents own words.

Please read and enjoy this heart-warming story and remember that we at Pet Parents Place love to hear and share these stories.  Please send yours into us at info@petparentsplace.com .  I look forward to reading them!

HUCKLEBERRY WAS FOUND ON PETFINDER AND WAS AT A KILL SHELTER

I found Huckleberry on Petfinder.  His post was 10 months old and he was located at a kill shelter, so I emailed them to see if it was a mistake or if he was still there.

THE SHELTER’S EMAIL WAS LIKE THAT LILO HAD

They emailed me back and the email was very similar to the interaction that Lilo had with the shelter worker in the movie ‘Lilo and Stitch’.  The email basically said “Yes, he is still here, but we have a lot of really nice dogs here…”  My reply: “He’s good.  I can tell.”  I was at Animal Control the next day.

MEETING HUCK AND HIS ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY

When I met Huck at the shelter it was clear why they sent the email the way they did.  Huck was very antisocial.  Not mean, just scared.  He barked at me a lot and didn’t let me pet him.  He ran away from any kind of human contact.

THE PET PARENT TAKES TIME OFF WORK TO HELP HUCK ADJUST

I took two weeks off work so I could get him used to me. I spent 7 days visiting him at Animal Control and then on the 8th day I finally got him to trust me enough to put a collar and leash on him.  It’s been 8 years that I’ve had him now and I wouldn’t trade him for any other dog.  He was a project for sure, but he’s worth all the time in the world
