THE HEARTBREAK OF LOSING OR HAVING TO GIVE UP A PET

Sadly, too many animal lovers have known the heartbreak of having to give up or losing their beloved pet.  Perhaps the pet ended up in an animal shelter as a result of difficult circumstances. Because of losing their home to foreclosure, medical issues, lack of money to care for their beloved pet.  Or perhaps the animal ran off and was never found by the pet parent.  This creates a huge void in your heart.  Not only do you miss your best friend, but the question of what happened to them forever haunts you.  You desperately need to know that they ended up in a happy, forever loving new home.

I WONDERED WHY MY NEW RESCUE WAS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Several years ago, at an animal rescue group adoption event I met a small two-year old mixed-breed dog.  I instantly fell in love with the two-year old guy.  I adopted him and named him ‘Beemer’ – because he cornered nicely!  Beemer was sweet, lovable and well trained. And I wondered how he ended up being for adoption.  I asked the rescue group if they knew.   They said he’d belonged to an elderly lady that had loved him dearly.  But when she became ill, her family members arbitrarily toke Beemer to the local animal shelter.  And dumped him off. So there was a very sweet older woman who was ill and ended up in a nursing home, and had no idea of what happened to her beloved best friend. The fact she would never know that he beloved pet was in a happy, forever home made me sad.

To me, past pet parents and fosters never knowing what happened to their beloved pets was wrong and needed to be fixed.

BUT WHAT COULD I DO TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

I spent hours searching online for websites that might have information about Beemer.  I looked for websites that would have databases that connected past and present rescue pets and their parents or fosters.  Nothing.  That haunted me. I needed to do something to connect those people and mend broken hearts.  So I created my company Pet Parents Place (P3) to connect the past and present parents or fosters of rescue animals; including dogs, cats, birds and horses. And all for free. I wanted everyone to be able to search.  I don’t charge anything so everyone could have access.

PEOPLE OF ALL AGES BENEFIT FROM PET PARENTS’ PLACE (P3)

Last summer I had my P3 company booth at a local SPCA charity event.  A woman came up and ask about my company, it’s purpose, etc.  After I explained it to her, she told me that she was a child psychologist.  And she said one of the main issues she works with is the heartbreak of children when they had to give up their pet and never knew what happened to it.  She said being able to give them the peace of mind of knowing that their beloved pet was alive and happy.  She said it would be a huge gift to be able to give these children the peace of mind knowing their beloved pet was alive, happy and had a forever home.
